After several weeks of hard talk, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered this 22 oz bastard. It is the devil. Pours a deep copper with a thin head that gives an accurate preview of what's about to happen. I'm sure my impression would be more favorable if the experience had ended after 12 oz! My only hope was to drink it at a steady pace before it got too warm. My toughest beer so far because bitter is all there is. It had a long finish so bitter it was almost metallic - all I wanted to do was go brush my teeth.
And with that, I've closed out the American Strong Ales category - quite an accomplishment by my standards!
FYI - I feel like I should share the bottle label, which had me rolling my eyes:
This is an aggressive ale. You probably won't like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory - maybe something with a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it's made in a little brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless fizzy yellow beverage will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multi-million dollar ad campaigns make things taste better. Perhaps you're mouthing your words as you read this.
